Enfield Refugee Welcome will be holding their next general meeting on Wednesday 28th February at St Alphege Church in Edmonton (details here).
The group is now looking to apply to the Home Office to support a second refugee family in Enfield. It’s very much a team effort and they need more volunteers to help make this happen. There are a number of roles and tasks, so please consider if you could contribute and be part of the team.
The work includes:
- finding and securing suitable accommodation
- setting up the house/flat ready for when the family arrives
- leading and advising on safeguarding matters
- managing communications
- getting a number of things organised ready for when the family arrives, including school and college places, registering with a GP and dentist, setting up a bank account, benefit entitlements, etc
- befriending the refugee family, providing practical support and advice, helping the family adjust to living in London
- Arabic speakers, providing interpreting, particularly between the family and befrienders, and with the various contacts the family will have in the local community
- coordinating the befrienders and interpreters, and the various tasks and issues to help the family resettle in the borough
You will receive training and support in all these roles.
